Scottish Financial Technology Awards 2023. James Varga received two awards at the Scottish Financial Technology Awards: the Evangelist of the Year award and a Special Recognition award. These recognised contributions to Scotland’s fintech ecosystem over more than a decade of founding, building, and advocating for the sector. FDATA Open Banking Hero finalist. Nominated for the FDATA Open Banking Hero award in recognition of pioneering work in open banking advocacy, regulation, and product development through DirectID and FDATA membership. Industry body founding and leadership

FDATA (Financial Data and Technology Association). Founding member. FDATA is the industry body that lobbied for open banking regulation in the UK and Europe. James was part of the working group that advocated for PSD2 legislation and the creation of the UK’s Open Banking Implementation Entity. Open Banking Excellence (OBE). Co-founder. OBE is a global open banking and open finance community that connects practitioners, regulators, and innovators across markets. Innovate Finance. Founding member. Innovate Finance is the UK’s industry body for fintech, representing the sector to government, regulators, and investors.

TechPassport. Member of the Supplier Advisory Board. TechPassport provides compliance and due diligence infrastructure that connects fintechs with banks — directly relevant to the procurement and evidence packs knowledge area. Trust in Digital Life (TDL). Board member. TDL is a European association focused on digital trust, cybersecurity, and privacy — connecting technology providers, researchers, and policymakers. FinTech Scotland. Board participation and SME Advisory Board member. FinTech Scotland is the national fintech cluster body, coordinating between startups, financial institutions, universities, and government to grow Scotland’s fintech sector.
